  • Artist(s) :
  • Album : Taylor Swift (2006)
  • The first single from American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who co-wrote “Tim McGraw” with Liz Rose for her self-titled debut studio album. Big Machine Records released it to US country radio on June 19, 2006. “Tim McGraw” is a country song with the ’50s progression, produced by Nathan Chapman. Music critics noted that the song borrows elements from alternative rock and other non-country genres. The song’s lyrics, which Swift wrote when she was a freshman in high school, tell the story of a summer relationship that ends abruptly and the narrator’s request to an ex-boyfriend to think back on her every time he hears her favorite song by Tim McGraw, a country musician.

Swift’s songwriting on “Tim McGraw” was praised by music critics for its powerful and nostalgic lyrics and melody. On their 2020 list of the 100 Greatest Debut Singles of All Time, Rolling Stone ranked it at number 11. The song, which peaked at number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number six on Hot Country Songs, marked Swift’s debut chart appearance in the US. The song received a double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling more than two million copies.

The accompanying music video, which was directed by Trey Fanjoy, has Swift’s love interest having flashbacks intercut with sequences showing her sleeping on a lake bed. Swift used a six-month radio tour to promote “Tim McGraw” and her debut album. She also played the song during her first headlining tour, the Fearless Tour (2009–2010). On a few dates of her subsequent tours, including the Red Tour (2013), the Reputation Stadium Tour (2018), and the Eras Tour (2023), she sang the song.

In her freshman year at Hendersonville High School, Swift collaborated with Liz Rose to write “Tim McGraw.” In the middle of her arithmetic lesson, she had the inspiration: “I was just sitting there, and I started humming this melody.” Then she connected the song to a situation she was going through right now. Swift was aware that she would break up with her senior boyfriend when he left for college at the end of the year. Swift created the song to help her deal with the complex emotions she was going through. Swift reportedly arrived at her after-school job at Sony/ATV Music “with the idea and the melody, knowing exactly what she wanted.” according to Rose.

    Tim McGraw Taylor Swift Lyric

He said the way my blue eyes shined
Put those Georgia stars to shame that night
    I said, “That’s a lie”
Just a boy in a Chevy truck
That had a tendency of gettin’ stuck
    On back roads at night
And I was right there beside him all summer long
And then the time we woke up to find that summer gone

But when you think Tim McGraw
I hope you think my favorite song
The one we danced to all night long
The moon like a spotlight on the lake
    When you think happiness
I hope you think that little black dress
Think of my head on your chest
And my old faded blue jeans
    When you think Tim McGraw
I hope you think of me

:: Tim McGraw Taylor Swift Lyric is meant for educational purpose only ::

September saw a month of tears
And thankin’ God that you weren’t here
    To see me like that
But in a box beneath my bed
Is a letter that you never read
    From three summers back
It’s hard not to find it all a little bittersweet
And lookin’ back on all of that, it’s nice to believe

    When you think Tim McGraw
I hope you think my favorite song
The one we danced to all night long
The moon like a spotlight on the lake
    When you think happiness
I hope you think that little black dress
Think of my head on your chest
And my old faded blue jeans
    When you think Tim McGraw
I hope you think of me

And I’m back for the first time since then
    I’m standin’ on your street
And there’s a letter left on your doorstep
And the first thing that you’ll read is:

    “When you think Tim McGraw
I hope you think my favorite song
Someday you’ll turn your radio on
I hope it takes you back to that place”

    When you think happiness
I hope you think that little black dress
Think of my head on your chest
And my old faded blue jeans
    When you think Tim McGraw
I hope you think of me

    Oh, think of me
    Mmmm

He said the way my blue eyes shined
Put those Georgia stars to shame that night
    I said, “That’s a lie”
