Drake, a Canadian singer and rapper, recorded the song “Best I Ever Had” for his debut EP So Far Gone. It rose to prominence following the release of the eponymous mixtape. The song can also be found on iTunes in a number of countries, as well as on Drake’s debut studio album Thank Me Later, which features it as a bonus track in the Japanese edition.

On October 11, 2010, it was made available as a double-A-side single alongside “Fancy” in the United Kingdom, serving as the album’s third single. Drake decided to release So Far Gone as a purchaseable EP in response to the song’s popularity. The songs “Do It For The Boy” by Lil Wayne and “Fallin’ in Love” by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds are sampled in the song.

“Best I Ever Had” became Drake’s first top ten single and peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. Up until “One Dance” (2016) peaked at number one, it remained his highest charting single as a lead artist in the United States (as both Rihanna collaborations, “What’s My Name?” and “Work” reached No. 1).

Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song were the two Grammy Awards for which the song was nominated. It was also a nominee for Single of the Year at the 2010 Juno Awards in the beginning of 2010, but Michael Bublé’s “Haven’t Met You Yet” won the title.

iTunes rejected the original artwork, which featured the single as a file on a computer with a plain white background and was created by artwork designer Darkie. Darkie made a brand-new cover.

Drake became the third Canadian rapper to have a song chart on the Hot 100 when the song debuted at number 92 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The first rapper to do so was Kardinal Offishall, whose song “Dangerous” peaked at number five, and the second, K’naan, whose song “Wavin’ Flag” at number 99, peaked at number two for four weeks, behind The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” before dropping to number three. Due to extensive airplay and downloads, the song became the number one song on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Its Hot Rap Tracks debut was at number 24 on May 9 and it peaked at number one. Drake made history by being the first rapper from Canada to simultaneously have a number-one song on the Hot Rap Tracks and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. His song “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” by Deborah Cox is the second Canadian artist to ever reach the top of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In the initial fortnight of its sale on iTunes, “Best I Ever Had” achieved sales of more than 300,000 units. The New York Times, published on June 29, states that Drake’s song became the fourth best-selling single as a result of these sales, only Sean Kingston and The Black Eyed Peas’ songs ranking higher. Before the chart was discontinued, the song reached its highest position on the Pop 100 list at number 49. Since its release, “Best I Ever Had” had been downloaded more than 2,000,000 times by December 2010.

The song “Every Girl” by Young Money Entertainment and the unofficial album The Girls Love Drake, which was released on May 28, 2009, were both available on iTunes. The album was labeled Canadian Money Entertainment. Due to the album’s widespread downloads, both songs saw an increase in the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at numbers 18 and 35, respectively. Following a few days, Drake’s management requested that it be taken down, and he subsequently filed a lawsuit against the label.

You know, a lot of girls be
Thinkin’ my songs are about them
This is not to get confused
This one’s for you

Baby, you my everything, you all I ever wanted
We could do it real big, bigger than you ever done it
You be up on everything, other hoes ain’t never on it
I want this forever, I swear I can spend whatever on it
‘Cause she hold me down every time I hit her up
When I get right, I promise that we gon’ live it up
She made me beg for it ’til she give it up
And I say the same thing every single time
